Abstract
In comparison to glottic, subglottic and tracheal stenosis, isolated supraglottic stenosis in adult without a history of laryngeal trauma is a rare condition. Most isolated supraglottic stenosis occur in children with congenital laryngotracheal anomalies. When present in adult, it may be seen after prolonged orotracheal intubation, laryngeal trauma, improper supraglottic instrumentation or surgical treatment for laryngeal malignancy. We report a case of a 45-year-old woman who presented with progressive dyspnea for the last one week. Initial diagnostic laryngoscopy revealed supraglottic stenosis with near total airway obstruction. The patient had no history of laryngeal trauma and causative medical history. She required a tracheostomy for definitive airway control. The supraglottic stenosis was removed by laryngomicrosurgery with CO2 laser. Then a silicon sheet was inserted and fixed in stenotic portion to prevent restenosis. There was no evidence of restenosis at 6 months after surgery. We report a successfully treated case of isolated supraglottic stenosis.
